A Different Kind of Writing Retreat

Let’s be honest: most writing retreats sound wonderful — until you look at the price, the time commitment, or the intimidating schedule.

We created our one-day writing retreats for a different kind of writer:

✔ Someone with a real life, not a week to spare

✔ Someone who wants clarity, focus, and inspiration

✔ Someone who loves writing, but also loves celebrating it

At Secret Writing Retreats, we host full-day retreats that are thoughtfully structured with guest authors sharing their expertise and in locations that often are rarely open to the public. Each Secret Writing Retreat is completely unique. Here's what makes them stand out.

1. One Powerful Day — No overnight Required

Most writing retreats ask you to take several days off, travel far, and commit a lot of time and money.

Ours? You arrive in the morning, and by the end of the afternoon, you’ve written more than you thought possible — and you’re home for dinner. Whether you're juggling a day job, family life, or just a packed schedule, this retreat gives you serious creative impact in a single day.

2. An Atmosphere That Does Half the Work

We host our retreats at exclusive locations — whether its a stunning, historic venue or an inspiring modern building, usually closed to the public, our locations offer more than just a nice backdrop.

You’ll start the day with a short tour of the building and grounds — soaking up the inspiration before you even sit down to write.

3. Yes, We Have a Confetti Cannon 🎉

Most retreats end with a polite thank you and a quiet goodbye.

Not ours.

We finish the day by celebrating what you’ve achieved — no matter how big or small. With confetti cannons, prosecco or nosecco, and a round of applause, if the venue allows, we mark the moment.

Because creativity deserves celebration. And writers deserve to feel proud of what they've achieved.

4.Learn from Writers Who Know

Each retreat features a live talk or Q&A with a published guest author — someone with real-world experience in the publishing industry.

These writers have been through the process: the rejections, the edits, the deadlines, the deals — and they share it all with honesty and insight.

Whether you’re dreaming of publication or just curious about what it takes, this session offers inspiration, practical wisdom, and generous advice from people who’ve walked the path.

5. Supportive, Not Stressful

You won’t find forced sharing or high-pressure workshops here. What you will find is:

  • A guided goal-setting session to help you focus your energy

  • Two deep writing sessions with no interruptions

  • A calm, structured day designed to meet you where you are

No matter your genre or experience level, this is a space where every kind of writer is welcome — introverts, overthinkers, first-drafters, and perfectionists alike.

6. Real Connection with other writers

If you’re craving community but feel awkward at the thought of group exercises or “sharing circles” — you’re not alone. That’s why we’ve designed the retreat to be:

  • Warm, but optional: chat over lunch or enjoy quiet reflection

  • Supportive, never performative: no one is judging your word count

  • Gently inspiring: a space to connect with other writers without comparison.

Many of our writers say it’s the first time they’ve felt truly understood in their creative process.
